true because they're, you know, they're really managing them. You can go there, you can hunt him, shoot him, and then they'll do the dress of the whole thing. For if you want, you can do it yourself. That part's not for me. I don't know. I just I just don't think Aiken.

if I if I had to No problem, right? No, no.

Me dress him. You do all that? Yeah. I got a buddy who does that. Scott in Austin.

When I go when I go elk hunting, um, we'll dress it in the field and quarter, but then I'll send it to a butcher to get it chopped up different cuts.

I love meat. Nothing wrong? Yeah.

It's, um I understand what you're saying. Like to pull the trigger and toe to be there when an animal dies. It's intense, but it also makes you realize what you're doing when you're eating meat.

Absolutely. And I think just knowing this, I'm cognizant of it. And I don't bless my food, but I think about it like, Thanks, man. Thanks. Thanks, madam.

When I was in Utah, um, last September, in a shot. That's elk. Not only did these guys pray for the elk, everyone takes their hat off, but they actually take a lot of grass that the elk eat and they make, like, a bundle of it. And they put it down on the elk carcass. When we're done cleaning the Elks after the bare bones of the elk, after the meats removed, they put this this thing down, they take their hats off was pretty serious, right? These guys, they do it with every every okla dies. Yeah, because it's, you know, it's part of their livelihood, but it's also they're majestic. They're in there.

you know. They're delicious, beautiful. And this Yeah, and they're so special there. So interesting. Like if I could just eat elk for the rest my life. I'd be happy doing that.

Bring the ever tried reindeer. No. Caribou reindeer in the city had some rate Here they have a restaurant, and then buddy mind worked at Nokia at the time, and they bring you picture.

And I eat meat. ... But anyway, there's a lot of elk hunting there, and I'll probably do some elk hunting with local people. ... Was one of the best places in the world to elk hunt. ... That's a lot of meat. ... I think it's not a lot of meat on a pig that size.

You know, I I wanted to have the experience because I had never hunted. I never killed anything. And I eat meat. So I felt like I have this, you know, responsibility that have the experience and confronted and all that.

And, um, I was actually the first of our group t kill a pig, and ah.

it.

was strange.

I didn't feel sad or traumatized. I felt.

heightens awareness, you know, like, um but I I.

think I.

might hunt again. I'm probably moving. Your Colorado just bought land in Colorado.

Yeah, um, apart.

Sort of. South Central. It's a tiny little town.

Um and Ah.

yeah, it's It's Ah, interesting area there. But anyway, there's a lot of elk hunting there, and I'll probably do some elk hunting with local people. You're gonna do it with a bow again? No, I think I'll use a rifle. Yeah, because I.

think that's the way to go. Yeah, not gonna be completely obsessed and do it every day.

I'm not. Yeah, cause I don't do that. Yeah, um and also, I don't You know, the thing about a bow is maybe this is what you're implying here. If you're not really good, the chances of you.

of, ah, elk running offer a pig running off with an arrow on its ass and dying. A slow, horrible death is quite high.

If you hit him with a rifle, right powered rifle with a scope you know you're in.

for, so you can still wound him. But you, it's your much more competent with the rifle, and it's a better.

It's a better meet gathering tool, But but good way to talk it describe it in Colorado has I think twice as many elk. Is any other state really entry? Yeah. Alright. Was one of the best places in the world to elk hunt. Yeah, so that's a good spot if you're looking.

And also.

you're taking a life, you'd taken elk. That's a lot of meat. I shot this pig. It was about, you know, it was a yearling. I think it's not a lot of meat on a pig that size.

And do do people like the your daughter's elk again? Sometimes sounds get annoyed. We a lot of meat and a lot of Elks dio, and it's healthier than beef. Oh, yeah, but why is it healthier.

It's got more protein per ounce. It's got mawr amino acids. It's It's a darker Richard color, like if you look at grass fed beef is grain fed beef. One of the notices, the grass fed beef, is a darker color that meets a dark car.

saying that you should go out and hunt. I'm not saying that people should do it, but I'm saying is, if you did do it, you'd have a completely different relationship with your food. When I be eating something, there's, like, a really good feeling that I know that I harvested that thing. I was out in the woods. I chased it for days. I was trying to get the wind right, so that the wind is on it. my back blowing towards the animal. I got to sneak up on it slowly of to figure my weight to where I can get a clean shot on this animal. Then, once I killed them, we have to drag it out of there. We have to cut it up and carry. Then we'll.

you have.

ah, high power rifle, there's a lot of, um, people that are chefs that shoot him in the head. There's, ah, they think that it's quicker, like if they die quicker, they taste better. But.

they taste delicious. I don't I don't really think there's any need for that. There's that. There's an idea that if the animal is too much adrenaline in it look a bit spooked there it will taint the flavor of the meat. But what.

So that's £1100 of meat, as we know, say a big bull elk might. ... That's £900 of meat. ... You know, I get elk sausage made and when in Utah that, um, the butcher that handles the meat out there makes great jerky. ... We made elk meatballs and look at the roast. ... I give him meat and ah, yeah, we share pictures and shit.

ethical cattle ranching. I'm all for that.

Me, too. That's awesome. That's one of the great things about one of my sponsors is Butcher Box and Butcher Box has ah total commitment to humanely raise animals 100% grass fed grass, finished beef. No antibiotics, no hormones ever. So they have these relationships with cattle ranchers, and they they use sustainable ranching and sustainable farming. So when you're buying meat from a good source like that, you're cutting out all the stuff that I hate about about farming. About about factory farming.

Me, too. Yeah, they're a good outfit. One thing I do, I did also see is.

um, because I killed three bulls this year and it's like it's weird because people say, Well.

there's no way you could eat all that.

So I said, Well.

how good are you? A math. So I go through. I got five people. My family, average fat average person eats £220 of meat a year.

My family it's more than that, But just say for that. So that's £1100 of meat, as we know, say a big bull elk might. You might get £300. So if I killed three. That's £900 of meat. That's still less than I'm gonna eat. So it's like people would be like it be better if you killed.

maybe just one bowl. And if you bought the rest, that I would have a problem with it doesn't that.

basically getting they.

also to understand you have freezers, you keep everything. I also share it with friends. Every time I kill a bull, I have a ton of friends lined up.

There's nothing I love more than giving love. It.

always, said his hunter.

We are providers. That has always been so. There's a certain sense, the sound of satisfaction, and and.

I don't know if it's honoring the animal. I don't know what it feels like, but it feels like to me, it feels right to give me and have somebody say, Man that LG gave me that was the best meat I've ever had. I.

just bought a ton of freezer bags so I can give away to friends. You know, I get elk sausage made and when in Utah that, um, the butcher that handles the meat out there makes great jerky. Yes, I get a bunch of jerky now And that out to people, it's awesome. I love it. Thanks. Me happy? When? When I get text messages, people do. We made elk meatballs and look at the roast. I made, like, you know, my friend Tom. Papa. He makes bread, and he makes his own handmade. Ah, a sour dough bread. It's amazing. Delicious. And he brings bread. I give him meat and ah, yeah, we share pictures and shit. It makes me really happy when one of my friends sends me a meal, and I know that they're they're eating an animal that I harvested myself.

license. Jamie.

what the fuck is this guy here for? It's fucking.

so all of.

you, basically you're saying eat the same thing. It's just meat and rice. Basically.

meeting rice. Potatoes. It's.

kind of meat.

On a lot of times, it's bison. Um um, we do that sound strong. Yeah, I fucking love of bison.

How.

long in town for.

Uh, two more days.

You got somewhere you can cook? Yeah, I got a lot of help for.

you. Oh, my God. I love you.

baby.

Commercial freezers in the back. My shot to last year's. Really? Yeah. I try to give it out to maybe my would you want him in Utah and one of, um in Central California.

Nice. Nice.

I've always in Oregon. They got a ton of elcom.

Was.

Roosevelt elk in in Oregon? They're bigger body to its.

right animal.

The best Meet this. It is by, in my opinion, the best meat there is yourself by far. It's my favorite.

So good for you, too.

Yeah, it's taste so damn good too.

I've never had out that I didn't like, even if the guy cooking it sucked, it still came out good. Yeah.

it's a crazy taste, right? It's like people that think that Ah, that venison is gamey like, first of all, just because someone hasn't prepared it correctly and they don't take care of it after they killed it. But to it's like not elk. No, the shit is always good. You could have old bowl like a fucking 10 year old bull has been rotten and snap another elk with his head and still taste delicious.

when you cook it, it's fucking amazing. It's the.

reason why wolves chasing those motherfucking exactly delicious what's going on.

So how many times you eat a day.

right now, it's usually it's usually about five, but right now my five meals air smaller like when we're going in. The world's like the last two months. I mean those five meals and then anything else, everything else just going crazy. Everything I possibly can on and you know I try and keep it clean, but you just you just want it all everything.

Joe Rogan: Well, they've done studies on game meat versus domestic beef. ... It's way more protein like the difference between a piece of beef in a piece of pull up the different screen, like £1 of beef versus £1 of elk. ... Cameron Hanes: Yeah, it's I remember when I usedto hunt elk in the Eagle Cap Wilderness. ... It just seemed like the elk were different and quicker.

I mean if a a sound bite, could it came in, or something in music.

who is.

like beautiful is like there should been does flying around because that piece of meat looked so perfect and it's just like like you say when you eat it, it's like.

I don't know is like energy injection.

Well, they've done studies on game meat versus domestic beef. They've also done studies on domestic beef that's raised on grain versus domestic beef. It's raised on grass. Domestic beat that's raised on grain is probably the least nutritious. And then domestic beef that's raised on grass is far superior, much healthier. But then you go with wild Game. Me? Yeah, I mean, it's another 100% mawr nutritious. It's way more protein like the difference between a piece of beef in a piece of pull up the different screen, like £1 of beef versus £1 of elk. I think it's more than double the amount of protein. Really? Yeah. And then there's also insane amounts of amino acids and on essential fatty acids like you're getting all the grass fed these this animals eating wild grasses, Theis animals, even the same diet would have eaten 4000 years ago.

Yeah, it's I remember when I usedto hunt elk in the Eagle Cap Wilderness. I remember I used to think those elk were like high octane like, because they were so fast compared to the Bulls I hunted over in western Oregon. I always thought that it was just that that feed must be.

I don't know. It just seemed like the elk were different and quicker. And so I'm thinking, Well, if I'm eating those bulls and those bulls are elite athletes for bowls, it's like this can't I mean, it's got to be amazing. It's gotta be amazing for me.

Well, it makes sense because the Eagle Cap wilderness is like rich, dense forest. Yeah, right. It's so green up there.

Yeah, it's They call it the Little Alps. I mean, that's its rugged in its.

its steep. It's. But there is good feet up there, too. For the animals as a man. Those bulls, they're they're studs. Amazing. Yeah, they are. Yeah. It's rough country, though. Yeah, it's rough country.

I mean, that's an elk that died from a shot from a bow and arrow. ... Joe Rogan: to the meat. ... So there's a story to that meat, and there's a connection to that meat.

That's right. And a gun.

But I got some milk for you.

Do you really? Oh, yeah. Yeah, man. A lot of the truck. That would be very grateful.

Looking up first.

I have I bought a box of ah, these insulated freezer bags for people to thank you. That's such a That's a nice aspect of being a hunter, cause you have you get hundreds of pounds of meat from one animal, so you could share that with a lot of people. It's really it's feel it makes me feel real good that I'm giving some to people than the semi pictures of cooked food. Tom, Papa just sent me. This picture really is roasted. He cooked? Yeah, he's a Delphine Now, Tom. Probably eat a shitload Elk.

I don't think I've ever had l.

You'd love it. It's delicious. I'm gonna give you a bunch of different kinds, but the sausage is the easiest to make. Cool so easy. Just pan fry it. You could do it in butter. I prefer to do it in beef tallow. I just Syrian beef tell my favorite way to do it is I get to get it to like a medium medium temperature. And then I put tomato sauce and wit and let it simmer that tomato sauce.

man, you're the best. That's gonna be so cool from my kid to have apocalyptic Rogan.

That's gonna be the best to bring back elk during a pandemic to your family.

Well, that's an out. I mean, that's an elk that died from a shot from a bow and arrow. You know, mean, that's Ah, there's something about that to me that there's there's more power.

to the meat. It's like I not more power. And then it's like a powerful thing. Do more power in that. Like.

I know what that animal waas that animals a wild, pieced, evading predators and me, a stupid, doughy.

human being managed to sneak into range. Or I could hit it and kill it in one shot with a bow. Now I even have a video of it that my friend campaigns took. So I have this animal that dropped, and then we took it apart and pushed it, and now I eat it. When I eat it, I think of what that animal was. An animal lived a majestic life, and if I didn't dig it out, it would have getting taken out by mountain lions or bears, I would have froze to death in the winter. Sometimes that happens, their teeth get ground, and there's an older male to which is what you want to get, because those are the ones that have passed their DNA down. So there's a story to that meat, and there's a connection to that meat. And there's no risk from that meat when you're when you're thinking about the risk to society of, um.

And then nuts. That's great. Yeah, because.

for men like you can't sell wild game in America, you can't sell. Yeah, it's That's one of the reasons why it almost went extinct. Elk, deer. All these animals almost went extinct at the turn of the century of the 20th century because they did what's called market hunting when there was no refrigerators. Back then, they were shot everything in this served it to people, and they didn't think about conservation. And also they got white tail deer down to, like, really low number elk were down to a really nothing. The extra painted it from many, many states where it used to be, Ah, game animal. In many, many states, it's not. It's not there anymore.

I think it's something crazy like it's. It's only in.

10 to 20% of its ah native range, where it used to be.

but it's Ah, they're very healthy populations in those states. Now. Colorado's very healthy Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah's where I go every year. It's so delicious meat.

though, that someone, uh, that Boise's in heaven and it's fought there. And I wanted toe let go and explore because I knew it was a lot of big big hunting over there. So I was like, I wanted Let's go for a drive and see if I could see any luck in a deer or elk or whatever it was. But I didn't get a chance. I was got Grizzlies. Grizzlies.

I'll stay in the car. Feels bears. Yeah.

hose got bears. I have friends that hunt in Idaho, and they get really nervous when they shoot something. Always have wolves to wolves and Grizzlies. Like Difficult that Yeah, if you shoot And Wyoming does as well if you shoot an elk in sodas Montana. But if you shoot an elk in any of those states that have Grizzlies very dangerous because usually takes a couple trips to pack it out. So, like if you shoot an elk, Anelka's you know, probably 8 £900.

and you're not gonna carry it all. I was like you and your friend. If you pack it out.

unless you have some four wheel drive vehicle that can get back to it or you have horses love times, they use horses. Hunters use horses to pack out. Meet with We'll have a whole train of horses, like five or six horses and they'll take the pack, put all the meat distributed evenly on the horses and get out of there one trip. I'm very excited about this ad cause I cook on a trader constantly every week, multiple times a week. It's my favorite way to cook meat. For sure they're pellet grills. What appellate grill is A trigger pellet grill uses these compressed sawdust pellets. They smashed the sawdust down, using the natural sugars of the wood and create these little pellets. And then they have a heating element inside of it.

and it just puts heat on the pellets, and it causes fire. And it's real simple, just cooking with fire and wood, and it delivers delicious, smoky flavor. But you don't have to fuss with anything. It's very simple to Dio, and it controls the temperature really accurately. It puts a delicious, smoky taste. Your food not too much, not too little. And, um, it has an application there. Y fire app that you can cook with has a bunch of recipes in it. You can actually use the app to not just control the temperature. Like anytime you want to, you can move it up or down. It also tells you the temperature of the meat with a meat probe, and you can use this AP to. It actually changes the temporary cook at a certain temp for certain distance in the apple, just back and forth for you that you could set alarms that will let you know when, like your meat has reached 130 degrees. It'll send.

I love it. I cook with it constantly. Have a timber line. It's awesome. And as a non awesome seal like it seals perfectly shut, and it keeps temperature. Amazing. It's my favorite way to cook. It's so easy, and it makes just delicious dishes. I cook elk on it. That's my favorite way to cook elk. Because elk is a sensitive thing to cook, it's very lean. There's not a lot of fat in it, so when you cook it, you really want to make sure you don't overcook it.

He can accurately regulate the temperature, and I go low and slow 225 degrees until it hits like 1 30 internal temperature. And then I, Syria on the outside. Oh, delicious trigger grills. I stand by them. They're fantastic. I've had one for years. I had one long before it was ever a sponsor. And I really, really enjoy them. Um, for I think for the appetizer have 15 minutes.

15 minutes. So you open up the box. You got 15 minutes to make something that makes a looking at the squid. You're looking at the popcorn. What? Fuck.

yeah, and you have to make. And then there's.

there's old, different machines to there's like a food processor. There's an ice cream machine. There's like a su vihd machine, which is, and you put stuff in it and then in the plastic seal it and then put it into, like, really hot water. Okay, that kind of shit, if you want to get adventurous.

I want that. What is in no case like.

like steak.

No, no. It's more like venison. Like a deer meat, but more delicious.

Is it? Is it the dear family know.

Yes, it is. The dear family is just ah, large, dear. Essentially a large mountain, dear used to be a plane's animal. But then when people started.

coming around and development, they started moving into the mountains. So now there are more of a mountain animal, but they're the rial. Habitat is like grazing and planes. But it's an enormous animal, you know.
